HeroKit vs Instinct: the Instinct AI alternative you can use today

Instinct is the invite-only AI assistant everyone is talking about. HeroKit does the same everyday work on WhatsApp and Telegram, with your own private server, its own phone number and no invite. Here is a fair, sourced comparison.

You want an assistant that gets things done. You also want to know where your life is going.

An assistant that reads your email, books your travel and answers for you needs a lot of trust. Before you connect your inbox, it is fair to ask where your data is kept, who else can see it, how the company makes money, what happens to your WhatsApp account, and whether you can actually get in.

Instinct answered the first question brilliantly: text it and things get done. The other questions are still being answered in public. HeroKit was built around them from day one: a private server for every customer, a hero with their own number, a clear monthly price, and nothing sent to other people without your OK.

Instinct is the AI assistant Silicon Valley spent the autumn talking about: you text it, it books, buys and replies for you. It is also invite-only, free for now with its business model still open, and it has drawn questions about privacy and reliability. HeroKit does the same everyday work from WhatsApp and Telegram, is open to anyone today, and is built so that your hero, your data and your phone number belong to you.

This page compares the two on the things people search for most: privacy, safety, WhatsApp bans, invites, price, groups and personalization. Every statement about Instinct comes from the sources listed at the end, with dates. Instinct is a trademark of its owner and is named here only to compare the two products.

What is Instinct AI?

Instinct is a personal AI assistant operated by Spear Street Technology, a San Francisco company. Its founder, Noah Shinn, is a former research scientist at Sierra. Instinct’s homepage describes it as “a personal assistant that understands what you’re working on”, with “no new interfaces”: you text or call it, and it can use a phone and a computer the way you do.

Users connect it to WhatsApp, iMessage, text messages and their email, and it handles tasks such as replies, calendars, travel, home services, shopping and bookings. Reporters have used it to book a cabin, order groceries, cancel forgotten subscriptions and deal with customer service.

Instinct raised money fast. Quartz reported on August 27, 2026 that it was raising a $250 million Series B at a $2.5 billion valuation, bringing its total funding to $350 million, and that the product was in private beta and not available to the public.

Privacy: is Instinct AI safe?

Privacy is the first thing people ask about an assistant that reads their email, so this is where the two products differ most.

How HeroKit is built. Every HeroKit customer gets their own dedicated server, their own hero and their own phone number, set up the moment they pay. Your hero’s conversations, files, memory and the access to your connected accounts live on that private machine. Other customers’ heroes run on their own machines, and no customer can reach another customer’s hero or data. HeroKit’s central account system keeps only what it needs to run your subscription: your email, your plan and payment status, your verified phone number, and your hero’s name and photo.

To write replies, your hero uses the AI processing service named in our privacy policy, under a contract that limits it to running HeroKit for you. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. Passwords and keys your hero uses are kept in an encrypted vault, and you can disconnect any app, export your data or delete your account from your dashboard.

What has been reported about Instinct. Instinct’s terms and privacy policy were revised on August 26, 2026. According to a summary of those documents by AI Wiki:

  • Instinct may access, copy, collect and index data from the services you connect, and act through them.
  • It may use your inputs and outputs to improve its products, including training models, unless you opt out. The opt-out applies going forward.
  • Disconnecting a service does not by itself delete data already indexed. Deletion is a separate request.
  • The terms appoint the service as your agent for agreements and transactions made on your behalf.

TechCrunch reported on August 24, 2026 that early testers found Instinct still summarizing email after access was removed, could not at first delete indexed Gmail records, and in one case saw an email sent without confirmation. One tester said the team later added a control to delete external data. Instinct told The Wall Street Journal it was taking the concerns seriously.

On the business model, Quartz reported, citing Forbes, that the app is free for now and that the models under consideration include a paid tier or an advertising approach drawing on the app’s visibility into users’ communications and financial activity. No decision had been announced as of November 5, 2026.

Reliability: Instinct WhatsApp bans and outages

Account bans. NDTV Profit reported that several WhatsApp users complained Instinct stopped replying, and that one user posted on October 31, 2026 that his WhatsApp account was banned right after he signed up, with no way to appeal. NDTV Profit added that WhatsApp’s terms restrict unauthorized automated use of its service, but that nothing so far showed those rules were applied to Instinct’s users.

Outages. On November 2, 2026, Instinct’s founder posted that for part of the morning it could not reply to WhatsApp users because a configuration issue had interrupted payments to one of its service providers, and that the issue was fixed. A tester also noted outages on September 22 and 23.

How HeroKit avoids putting your account at risk. Your hero has its own dedicated phone number on WhatsApp and Telegram. You message your hero from your personal account, the same way you message a colleague, and your personal account is never the one HeroKit connects or automates. If something ever happens to your hero’s number, HeroKit replaces it for you, and your own WhatsApp is untouched.

Personalization: your hero, your name, your face

This is what HeroKit is known for. You create a hero and decide who they are: the name people see, the profile photo, the about line and the personality, from short and formal to warm and chatty. You can pick one of our heroes, like Leo or Sveta, or upload your own picture. One edit updates WhatsApp and Telegram together, so it is the same person on both apps, in your private chats and in your groups.

Instinct’s public materials describe an assistant you text, but we found no documentation of choosing its name, photo or persona.

Availability: Instinct invite code and waitlist

Instinct was introduced on August 26, 2026 as a private beta. Access comes through its waitlist or an invitation from an existing member, and testers reported a limited number of invites per member. Guides warn that invite codes sold by strangers are a scam risk.

HeroKit has no waitlist and no invite codes. You enter your name and email, pay for your first month, and your dedicated server, your hero and their phone number are set up for you. You check your phone, create your hero in your dashboard and start messaging.

Pricing: is Instinct AI free?

Instinct is free during its beta. Its terms leave room for fees later, and its business model was still under consideration in the latest reporting.

HeroKit is one plan, the Hero plan, at $99 a month with every feature included: your own server, your hero’s phone number, WhatsApp and Telegram, groups, voice notes, Smart Tutor, reports and the live dashboard. It is monthly, you can cancel any time, and there are no ads.

Groups: can Instinct work in WhatsApp groups?

HeroKit heroes work inside WhatsApp and Telegram groups. Add your hero to a team, family or class group; tag your hero with an @mention and they answer in the group, pull numbers, track requests as tasks and tag the right people. Private items stay private.

We found no documentation of Instinct working inside group chats as of November 5, 2026, so we list it as not documented rather than not possible.

Everything else HeroKit does

  • Telegram as well as WhatsApp, with the same hero and number.
  • Voice notes in and out, in any language, so you can talk from the car and hear the answer back.
  • Smart Tutor: a private tutor for languages, math, exam prep or coding, with voice-note lessons, quizzes, homework checks and a weekly progress summary.
  • Reports and business intelligence from your dashboards and databases, by brand, campaign or client, on demand or on a schedule.
  • Routines: a morning brief, daily digests, weekly reports and “tell me when X happens” watches that run while you sleep.
  • A live dashboard that shows what your hero is doing, with a weekly usage report.
  • A referral program with credit for every friend who joins.
  • Multilingual from the first message: write or speak in your language and your hero answers in it.

Switching from Instinct, or can’t get an invite?

You do not need to give anything up to try HeroKit. Your hero has its own number, so it runs alongside any other assistant while you compare. Connect the same Gmail and calendar, forward your hero the chats that matter, and add them to one busy group for a week. If you are on the Instinct waitlist, you can start with HeroKit today and decide later.

Create your hero or see how HeroKit works.

Instinct AI review: the bottom line

Instinct has impressed many early users with what it can get done from a text message, and it is backed by some of the best-known investors in Silicon Valley. It is also a young, free, invite-only beta whose terms, business model and reliability are still settling.

HeroKit is for people who want that kind of help now, on WhatsApp and Telegram, with a clear monthly price, their own private server, an assistant with its own number and a personality they designed themselves.

Things your hero does that Instinct does not document

Illustrative scenarios with example names. Each one uses a HeroKit capability that works today.

Example: a family of five on WhatsApp

Answering inside the family group

  • The moment

The same questions every week: who is picking up, when is the dentist, did anyone pay the plumber.

  • You send your hero

“Add your hero to the family group once.”

  • Your hero

Answers when tagged, checks the shared calendar, and tags the person who needs to act.

  • The result

Nobody waits for one parent to scroll back and answer.

Illustrative example

Picture this: learning Spanish before a move

A tutoring session by voice note

  • The moment

Apps teach the same course to everyone, and a private teacher costs more than the move.

  • You send your hero

“Teach me the Spanish I need for the first month in Madrid, ten minutes a day.”

  • Your hero

Sends a short voice lesson every morning, corrects your pronunciation from the voice notes you send back, and quizzes you on Fridays.

  • The result

You can order, ask for directions and sign a lease in Spanish by the time you land.

Illustrative example

Example: a lawyer before connecting a work inbox

Asking where your data is

  • The moment

She will not connect a client inbox to anything until she knows where it is stored.

  • You send your hero

“Where do you keep my emails and notes?”

  • Your hero

Explains that everything your hero keeps lives on your own dedicated server, that nothing goes to other people without approval, and how to disconnect or delete.

  • The result

She connects one inbox, sees how it works for a week, then connects the rest.

  1. You: Where do you keep my emails and notes?
  2. HeroKit: On your own server, set up only for you. No other customer can reach it. You can disconnect Gmail or delete everything from your dashboard at any time.
Illustrative example

Picture this: a small online shop

A team question in Telegram

  • The moment

The team asks the founder for yesterday's numbers ten times a day.

  • You send your hero

“Add your hero to the team's Telegram group and connect the sales sheet.”

  • Your hero

Answers number questions in the group, tags whoever asked, and posts a short report every Monday.

  • The result

The founder stops being the team's search engine.

Questions to ask any AI assistant before you connect your inbox

Whichever assistant you choose, these questions are worth an answer in writing.

Where is my data stored, and who else is on that machine?

HeroKit: your hero runs on a dedicated server set up for you alone. Ask any other assistant the same question.

Is my data used to train models or sell ads?

HeroKit does not sell your data or use it for advertising. Check the other product's terms for training and advertising rules.

What happens when I disconnect an account?

Check whether disconnecting also deletes what was already collected, or whether deletion is a separate step.

Does it send anything without asking me?

With HeroKit, messages and emails to other people go out only after you approve the exact text.

Whose phone number does it use?

HeroKit gives your hero its own number, so your personal WhatsApp account is never the one connected.

How does the company make money?

HeroKit charges a flat monthly fee and runs no ads. A free product has to make money some other way, so ask how.

What you get from the first day with HeroKit

No waitlist, no invite code. This is what happens after you pay for your first month.

Your private server

A dedicated server is set up for you alone, with your hero and their memory on it.

Your hero's phone number

A real number connected to WhatsApp and Telegram. Save it as a contact like anyone else.

Your hero, your way

Pick a name, a photo and a personality in your dashboard. One edit updates both apps.

Your accounts

Connect Gmail, Google Calendar and the apps you use, and choose what your hero may do alone and what needs your OK.

Your hero, your name, your photo

Nobody else lets you shape the assistant you talk to. Instinct does not document a way to change who you are talking to. With HeroKit, that is the first thing you do.

Pick the name people see

Call your hero whatever you like. The display name updates on WhatsApp and on Telegram together, so it is the same person on both apps.

Upload your own profile photo

Use a photo, a logo or one of our eight example looks. You upload it once and it shows on both channels. There is no generated face: the picture is the one you choose.

Write the about line and the personality

Short and formal, warm and chatty, or somewhere in between. Your hero keeps the tone you set in every chat and every draft.

One hero that does everything

Each account has one hero. The look is only the look: every hero handles email, calendar, tasks, groups, research and reports the same way.

What is Instinct AI?

Instinct is a personal AI assistant you text or call, operated by Spear Street Technology and founded by Noah Shinn, a former Sierra research scientist. It works over text messages, WhatsApp and phone calls, connects to your email and calendar, and takes actions such as bookings and purchases. As of November 5, 2026 it is an invite-only private beta.

Is HeroKit a good Instinct alternative?

Yes, if you want an assistant on WhatsApp or Telegram that you can start using today. HeroKit has no waitlist, gives your hero its own phone number so your personal WhatsApp account is never the one connected, runs your hero on its own dedicated server, works inside groups, and lets you choose its name, photo and personality.

How do I get an Instinct invite code?

Instinct says access is through its waitlist or an invitation from an existing member. Codes shared or sold by strangers are a scam risk, so use the official waitlist. If you do not want to wait, HeroKit needs no invite: sign up, pay for your first month and your hero is set up for you.

Is Instinct AI free?

During its private beta Instinct is free. Quartz, citing Forbes, reported in August 2026 that the business models under consideration include a paid subscription or advertising drawing on the app's visibility into users' communications and financial activity. HeroKit is $99 a month, with no ads.

Is Instinct AI safe to use?

Instinct's terms let it access and index connected accounts, act on your behalf and, unless you opt out, use your inputs to train models. Early testers reported an email sent without confirmation and data kept after disconnecting Google. The company says it has shipped fixes. Read its current terms and decide which accounts you connect.

Why are some WhatsApp accounts banned after signing up for Instinct?

On October 31, 2026 a user posted that his WhatsApp account was banned right after he signed up for Instinct, NDTV Profit reported. WhatsApp's terms restrict unauthorized automated use, but nothing public shows those rules were applied to Instinct users. With HeroKit your hero uses its own dedicated number, not yours.

How long is the Instinct waitlist?

Instinct has not published a waiting time. It says it has been adding capacity and lets existing members invite others. HeroKit has no waitlist.

Does Instinct use my data to train AI models?

According to its terms revised on August 26, 2026, Instinct may use your inputs and outputs to improve its products, including training models, unless you opt out, and the opt-out applies going forward. HeroKit does not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Can I use Instinct in a WhatsApp group?

We found no documentation of Instinct working inside group chats as of November 5, 2026. HeroKit heroes work inside WhatsApp and Telegram groups and answer when you tag them.

Who founded Instinct?

Instinct was founded by Noah Shinn, a former research scientist at Sierra, and is operated by Spear Street Technology in San Francisco.

Does Instinct work on Telegram?

Instinct's public materials mention text messages, WhatsApp, iMessage and phone calls. We found no mention of Telegram. Your HeroKit hero works on WhatsApp and Telegram with one number.

Can I keep my HeroKit hero private from other customers?

It always is. Each customer's hero runs on its own dedicated server, and no customer can reach another customer's hero or data.
